Saz Lessons

Saz TrainingSLSA provides training in playing Saz, a traditional guitar commonly played by many communities around the Mediterranean and Asia as a way of engaging isolated adults and young people from Turkish, Cypriot, Kurdish background living in Lewisham and other interested members in the community.  The training provides opportunities for people to socialise, share information and discuss cultural issues.

Turkish, Cypriot and Kurdish people in South London have asked for saz training for young people and they believe it will encourage intergenerational communication and encourage traditional dance.  Many people in our communities are isolated because they do not understanding English, have no close relatives around, do not understand cultures in the UK, and find it difficult to integrate into the diverse communities around them.

Whilst there is a network of clubs offering support and socialisation for elderly people from these areas, there are few that cater for the interest of young Turkish, Cypriot and Kurdish people in south London.
